Description of Position: The Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing for the care, safety, and well-being of the children assigned to the classroom; supporting early learning experiences while using Creative Curriculum in the classroom. Responsible for implementing and following Childcare Licensing regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, Paths to Quality/NAEYC criteria, TradeWinds policies, procedures, and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of the classroom.

The Teacher Assistant assists in preparing the classroom materials and plans providing quality learning experiences for young children with and without special needs.  Assist in maintaining records on each child’s progress and development for the purpose of planning and utilization of Teaching Strategies Gold. Utilizes positive discipline to guide the child’s behavior in positive ways that support total growth and development, and promote self-esteem; Must work collaboratively and maintain an open, friendly, and professional relationship with the teachers, family members, and other staff to achieve positive outcomes for children of all abilities.

Qualities the candidate must have:

 Additional Responsibilities:  Assistant teachers must obtain at least 20 hours of professional development a year, including attending meetings and training, and maintaining the appropriate competencies and abilities as required by the position; training may occur in the evenings or on weekends, or online.

Education Requirements: Minimum CDA, Preferred Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education; Experience working with children with special needs preferred.

Infant/Toddler Childcare Lead Teacher

Experience:    Must have at least three (3) months experience with children in a classroom setting

Functional Skills Camp Assistants

Department: Children Services

Hours:

TradeWinds Services, Inc, located in Merrillville, IN, is seeking Functional Skills Camp Assistants. As part of a training team, assistants are responsible for supervising and caring for children enrolled in the Functional Skills camp, ages 13 to 18 years with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. The assistants will help with planning and implementing the curriculum per TradeWinds Services. This position requires active participation with the children, their families, other members of the teaching team, and community partners to assess and address the needs of individual children.

Camp will begin in early June and run through mid-August; applications should be submitted online by April 30th in order to complete necessary paperwork and training by end of May.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Services: Assisting with meals and snacks; Assistance/guidance with self-help skills; Providing appropriate skill training activities; Following through on recommendations of lead staff; Assistance with material/environmental modifications; Driving bus to sites (if 21 years of age or older); Supervision of students on-site, in vehicles, and off-site.

Documentation: Recording information required by state/TradeWinds regarding attendance, meals, medication, billing, etc.; Completing Incident reports, Recording skill progress, earned wages.

Contacts: Meetings with parents and/or department staff regarding individual cases, general programming. Meeting with vendors in the community or on-site.

Maintenance: Sanitizing and cleaning room and contents according to protocol. Stocking supplies in room and notifying supervisor when items are low. Identifying and reporting needs and repairs, in-room, and vehicles.

Training: May need to attend Saturday or after work hour training as required by TradeWinds. Must be trained in CPR/First Aid

 REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES: Report to camp lead

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with planning and implementing in-house activities. Redirect inappropriate and/or negative behaviors. Keep classroom organized. Adhere to 460IAC and all other regulations

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Education. Must be at least 21 years of age to drive vehicles possess a current valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, no suspensions within a 3-year period.

Experience: Experience with school-age children, school-based settings, and/or special needs populations (preferred)

Mental Skills/Ability:  Must have good organizational skills and have the ability to prioritize projects or assignments. Must be alert at all times and have the ability to work with children, team members, and community vendors. Must be able to react quickly and know what to do or who to contact in emergencies. Must be able to work with children identified with special needs in a positive manner, and must be familiar with stress management and conflict resolution techniques. Must be able to tolerate a high degree of stress at times, and have the physical and emotional stamina to respond quickly, appropriately, and effectively to emergency situations. Must be able to function independently in order to accomplish position requirements, referring unusual problems to supervisor. Must protect the rights of persons served. Must protect the persons served from abuse and neglect. Must be understanding of and willing to work with a diverse group of children that TradeWinds serves. Must keep client consumer information confidential. Must assist with keeping the bus/van clean

Physical Requirements: Provide balance assist, transfer assist to adolescent age children; crouching, crawling, bending, and climbing. Must be able to work with children with special needs in a positive manner, and must be familiar with stress management and conflict resolution techniques. Must be able to tolerate a high degree of stress, and have the physical agility and emotional stamina to respond quickly, appropriately, and effectively to emergency situations.

Working Conditions: Day shift (hours may vary). Exposure to infectious diseases, aggressive children, biting, scratching, and body fluids. Classroom environment (inside and outside except when the severity of the weather poses a safety hazard or the wind-chill temperature is below twenty-five degrees Fahrenheit.)

POSITION OBJECTIVES: To assist with design, create and install all types of signs to customer specifications and ensure a quality product is created and completed on time.

Transportation Driver

Department:

Hours: Part-Time

TradeWinds Services has a position for a driver to transport individuals with disabilities to and from the TradeWinds center and their place of employment. This is a split shift position averaging 15-20 hours, 5 days a week. Mornings from 7 am – 9 am and afternoons 3 pm – 5 pm. The right person will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of those individuals. It is the role of the transportation driver to ensure the most efficient and safest routes. This position requires the right person to be flexible about time and schedule changes. There is an opportunity for additional hours for events.

This person will also be responsible to:

  • *Ensure the vehicle has sufficient fuel
  • *Keep vehicle clean and free of debris
  • *Transport individuals to and from authorized locations only
  • *Operate vehicle in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed; immediately reporting any traffic violations and accidents to Human Resources
  • *In the event of an accident, assure medical emergency procedures are followed; complete written internal incident reports as required by TradeWinds’ procedure and other authorities.
  • *Attend and participate in centers in-service training, and other continuing education, career, and professional development opportunities.
  • *Perform other duties as assigned.

Must possess a current valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, no suspensions within a 3-year period; high school diploma or equivalent; be at least 21 years of age. Substitute Lunch Monitor

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Description of Position: Supervise the adult participants in the lunchroom/break area during scheduled morning breaks, lunch periods and afternoon breaks. Monitors adult participants’ behaviors by circulating and interacting with participants during lunch and break periods; encouraging participants to move about the room in an orderly fashion. Reports all adult participant injuries, accidents, illnesses, and behavior problems to the appropriate authority immediately, and as soon as reasonably possible completes written documentation of any of these occurrences.
